On a recent trip to Barnes & Noble for a book about the Grand Canyon, I of course ended up buying new books for the upcoming school year. I usually wander around opening books and trying to see if there is a familiar melody that fits the word’s rhythmic pattern. This book about dinosaurs caught my eye, and I got Skip to My Lou the very first try. This book is funny, and you can address a number of academic concepts. Much like an easier version of “Where’s Waldo”, each page has different colored dinosaurs, which is great for identifying colors! The dinosaurs do several activities on each page, like riding a bike, playing tennis, going up and down hills, and jumping on trampolines. This can be great for answering “wh” questions and identifying vocab words. Another favorite idea is acting out the activities on each page. My personal favorite is doing the cha cha cha!
