Timeless Tunesday: {A Sailor Went to Sea}

Monday Music & Movement: {I’m a Little Snowman}
Monday Music & Movement: [Uptown Funk]

Greetings! It’s the new year and we have been SO busy at Toneworks with new additions to our team of music therapists, new classes, and new opportunities for our clients to be involved in community experiences. 2014 was a whirlwind year, and we are looking forward to all of the exciting things that 2015 has to hold.

Our first blog post of the year is a timeless tune that I personally used to love singing with body rhythm and mirror clapping with my friends on the playground in elementary school. In this twist of the song, the words are adapted and can address academic, gross motor, following directions, self-regulation, and peer interaction. We personally LOVE to use one of our many stretchy bands for this intervention in our ECSE classrooms! They come in a variety of sizes and you can grab yours here from Bear Paw Creek!

Begin by moving the stretchy band up and down in small motions. When you get to direction words like high and low, move the stretchy band up and down to follow the words. For the last line of the song, instead of small motions up and down, switch to moving the stretchy band in and out.

A sailor went to sea sea sea

To see what he could see see see

But all that he could see see see

Was the bottom of the deep blue sea sea sea

He rowed way up high

He rowed way down low

But he couldn’t find a fish

So he rowed rowed rowed back home

We hope your year is off to a great start, and look forward to sharing many more of our favorite interventions in 2015!
