AGAIN with the stretchy band…do you sense the theme? I’ve passed along my love of stretchy bands to my practica student from the UofM. Today’s Music & Movement Monday is an intervention that he used last week in our ECSE classrooms. It’s a fun twist on 5 Little Monkeys, and the stretchy band is a great way to keep the kids working together and following directions!

We used pictures of 5 colored monkeys (gotta hit those academic goals!) and set them in the middle of the stretchy band circle. If you have 5 or less students, they can each choose a monkey after each verse, otherwise you can have the honor!

Each time you sing through the verses, either bounce the stretchy band up and down, or think of a new way to move it each time to keep the students engaged. Favorites can include pushing and pulling can for sensory input, jumping fast/slow, or passing the stretchy band around the circle.

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed

One fell off and bumped his head

Momma called the doctor and the doctor said,

NO MORE MONKEYS JUMPING ON THE BED!
