Any traveling music therapist, well anyone that drives a lot for work, knows that you can only listen to the same 20 songs on the radio for so long before you want to turn it off. Podcasts save me from the tedium of driving from school to school during the week. My favorite genres are comedy and human interest and I didn’t want to include the really huge podcasts that everyone already knows (Radiolab, Freakonomics, Serial, This American Life), since I want to give you new ones to listen to! So here are my top 5 (p.s. these are all PG-13 or R type ratings so you may not want to listen with a 4 yo in the car hehe):
Dinner Party Download: [an hour-long celebration of culture, food, and conversation with hosts Rico Gagliano and Brendan Francis Newnam designed to help you dazzle your friends at this weekend’s get-together]. I love the little segments that include a bit of history and odd new stories that you won’t hear about anywhere else.
Pop Culture Happy Hour: As a momtrepeneur, I have little free time and I don’t want to waste it on crappy books, movies, music, or TV. PCHH helps keep me in the loop so I know what might be worth consuming in pop culture media!
Totally Married: Elizabeth and Andy give totally unqualified relationship advice. It’s just the 2 of them with listener questions and they are endearing week after week…even if I don’t always agree with their views or advice!
Death, Sex, Money: This podcast covers the topics in it’s title and there are a mix of celebrities and regular old people that are interviewed in depth.
Who Charted: The hosts of this podcast use weekly pop culture charts to get to know their guests (usually comedians or actors) each week and then release “Two Charted” with just the hosts on Fridays. Kulap is from MN so I have to support her and also she is hilarious.
Lyndie would like to recommend her favorite podcast as well, Ronna & Beverly, who, don’t worry, aren’t real people. If you take a listen, you’ll understand why I gave that caveat.
Happy listening & driving!
