Mondays have a bad reputation for being the worst day of the week, but what better than a fun music and movement game to make it a little bit brighter?  Sometimes you just need a good dance party to de-stress and restart, and this chanting game is a perfect cure for the Monday blues.  This chant is very popular at summer camps, and I learned it as a fun theater warmup to get the energy flowing before a rehearsal or performance.

First begin a simple body percussion beat that the group can continue to do throughout this chant, for example stomp clap stomp stomp clap and adapt the tempo to the needs of the group.

Leader: Let me see you boogaloo!

Group: What’s that you say?

Leader: I said let me see you boogaloo!

Group: What’s that you say?

Leader: I said let me see you boogaloo!

Group: What’s that you say?

All: I said ooh, ah ah ah, ooh, ah ah ah, ooh, ah ah ah, ooh-one more time! ooh, ah ah ah, ooh, ah ah ah, ooh, ah ah ah ooh (everyone dances around during this part, imitating the leader)

Many different dance moves can be replaced for boogaloo; my favorites are sizzle like bacon, pop like popcorn, scuba dive, sprinkler.  It’s also fun to do this chant with different animals and then move around like that animal during the ooh ah ah ah dance section.  Kids love being the leader and picking an animal for everyone else to be!
