We are quickly approaching November, which means we have been with some of our ECSE classrooms for almost two months already! As we become more familiar with the kids in our classrooms, we wanted to find creative and musical ways to find out more about their favorite things. By using a familiar tune, kids will be able to sing along right away and there will be more chances for peer interaction and self-expression. This song is set to the tune of “Do You Know the Muffin Man?” and below is an example of the song that asks kids about their favorite color.
Do you know (name), (name), (name)?
Do you know (name)? His/her favorite color is purple
(Name) likes purple, purple, purple
(Name) likes purple, his/her favorite color is purple
The leader can tell the group which favorite they will be asking about before the activity begins, and while the leader sings the first half of the song the kids can have some time to think about their answer. If less processing time is needed, the leader can ask a different “favorite” question for each child and can include it in the song as well as ask it verbally. Here are some more ideas of “favorite” questions that can be incorporated into this song:
What is your favorite animal?
What is your favorite food?
What is your favorite season?
What is your favorite sport?
What is your favorite movie?
What is your favorite holiday?
Kids will enjoy sharing something new about themselves, and we can build our therapeutic rapport and discover new interests and passions of our clients. Some kids may even find that they share some favorites with their peers and/or teachers and this can lead to future conversations and discussions!
