Holiday gatherings are filled with joy, happiness, and excitement. In most occasions this includes some travel time with the family. Here are some tips to make holiday traveling as smooth as possible.
- Preparing Your Vehicle for Winter Travel: A tedious but very necessary step for winter travel. Click Here for more details to keep your car up to date.
- Make A Family Plan: Talk to family members ahead of time. Discuss any specific needs your children might have, and tell them what your plans are. Be sure to let them know that this will make the whole experience better for everyone.
- Ask for Help: Don’t be afraid to ask for an extra hand. Friends and family may not know how they can help unless you tell them. Have a list of things that you may need help with and share with your family via text message.
- Bag of Fun: Fill a backpack with things your child finds comforting or enjoys playing with – toys, stuffed animals, music player, or a few books. If your child gets overstimulated, find a quiet corner or a back room and pull out the backpack. This Santa Tracker website has a few activities as well.
- Bring A Familiar Food Dish: If your loved one is picky eater or on a special diet they may stress over missing his/her favorite food, bring your own supply.
- Names and Faces: Use family pictures to prepare your child to recognise names and faces. This can also work well to explain activities during the holiday – pictures of gift giving, dinner time, or social time.
- Have Reasonable Expectations: We tend to have high expectations for the holidays and want them to be ‘perfect’. Don’t get frustrated if the occasions don’t go as planned. Just cherish the time you do have and make the best of it. If your child cannot handle a large family event, plan something special just for your family and enjoy some time alone.
