Autism Awareness & Acceptance: Recommended Reading

It’s hard to believe that March is already coming to an end! At Toneworks we are excited to see the weather begin to warm up, and the sun finally begin shining after a cloudy March. We are also thrilled because April marks National Autism Awareness Month.

Visit the Autism Society’s website to find out how you can celebrate and support those living with Autism Spectrum Disorder, which affects 1 in 68 children in America, and over 3.4 million people nationwide. If you live in Minnesota, be sure to also check out the Autism Society of Minnesota’s website or like them on Facebook to find about local events, resources, and classes.

One of the most exciting things about Autism Awareness Month is the introduction of the newest member of Sesame Street! If you haven’t yet heard the news, please welcome Julia, the first member of Sesame Street with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Julia’s presence on the Sesame Street is part of the show’s Autism Awareness Campaign, which reminds us to #SeeAmazing in all children. Understanding what Autism looks like is incredibly important for all children, especially those who are neurotypical. It is essential that children understand what it means to have ASD and see that their peers with ASD have their own uniques strengths and skills. At Toneworks we love and support our clients with ASD. We are excited to spend April (and the rest of the year) celebrating them and helping them live to their greatest potential. Please join us! Happy spring, and happy Autism Awareness Month!
