This past Saturday we held a Sensory Friendly Concert at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. In partnership with The Musical Autist, The Autism Society of Minnesota, Minnesota Orchestra, and the Toneworks Community Foundation, we had the opportunity to present performances from three Minnesota Orchestra musicians and a talented young performer with disabilities.

What is a Sensory Friendly Concert? Sensory Friendly Concerts are musical performances during which organizers provide increased amenities for audience members with special needs who may have increased sensitivity to their environment. These free public events provide exposure to fine arts experiences for those who may not regularly have access, while also celebrating the progress and achievements of people with disabilities by giving them opportunities to perform for an appreciative audience.

This Saturday’s concert featured a woodwind trio including Julie Gramolini Williams (oboe), Greg Williams (clarinet) and Chris Marshall (bassoon), and a talented young cellist named Brandon Leu. The performance at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis had a great turnout and a very appreciative audience.
