Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC)

THERAPEUTIC LEARNING CENTER ( T L C ) FOR ADULTS!

The Toneworks Therapeutic Learning Center is a therapy based lifelong learning program that can be accessed as an alternative to a standard adult daycare center. The Center provides a welcoming environment where individuals can foster friendships and engage in diverse communities while offering opportunities for continued personal growth through goal based therapy services.

What is it?

Learning-based experiences are provided in small cohorts of adults and facilitated through goal based therapeutic activities provided by a Board Certified Music Therapist, Board Certified Art Therapist, Board Certified Recreation Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Language Pathologist, Adaptive Yoga Teacher, and supported by trained staff provided by Toneworks. From 8:30AM-2:30PM, Monday-Friday, participants have direct support for their level of needs, and unique programming that provides practical guidance and support to acquire and maintain skills for navigating different aspects of life.

Why do we do it?

The purpose of this therapeutic learning program is to provide a safe, low-demand environment for people with diverse support needs to explore their community, continue learning skills, and learn about creating and maintaining relationships with other people that have different interests and diagnosis. By developing sustainable relationships with peers they share common interests with, they are gaining independent living skills and learning how to participate with the support of trained support staff and therapists. This open and inclusive space caters to individuals who desire a place where they can freely express themselves during the learning process.

Who is it for?

This program is designed for adults over the age of 18 that traditionally thrived in a structured school environment of a federal setting 3 or 4 program. Our participants have a variety of disabilities and diagnosis, and diverse age groups and ability levels. Each of the classes provides instruction and goal based work with a therapist, as well as smaller breakout sessions with more individual assistance if participation is desired. Each rotation consists of: 30 minutes of group instruction similar to “indirect” services in a school setting. It is followed immediately by 30 minutes of pair instruction break outs similar to “direct” services in a school setting. Each hour a different therapeutic goal is addressed for each participant by a different member of their therapeutic team.
